Kiwanis invites kids to shoot and score in summer soccer camps July 8, 2009

Kiwanis Recreation Center, 6111 S. All America Way, offers boys and girls ages 5 to 10 years old a chance to develop sound fundamental soccer skills in two four-day Indoor Soccer Camps in July.

Corona del Sol Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Dan Salas will help participants learn the rules and strategies of soccer while emphasizing dribbling, passing, headers and shooting.

The camps will be held at the Kiwanis Recreation Center’s 23,000 square foot multi-purpose gymnasium. Each camp session is $95 and will be from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Monday through Thursday, July 20- 23 (15911) or July 27-30 (15912). Advance registration is required.

Camp participants should bring their own size 4 or 5 ball and wear loose fitting clothing and tennis shoes. Each participant will receive a camp T-shirt.

North Tempe Boys and Girls Club to host day camp May 26 to Aug. 7

The North Tempe Boys Girls Club provides activity-filled day camps for children this summer.

The North Tempe Multi-Generational Center, 1555 N. Bridalwreath St., will host the summer camp for boys and girls ages 5 to 14 from May 26 to Aug. 7. In addition to six different summer-themed sessions, the camp will feature daily boxed lunches, snacks and activity areas. For an additional cost, campgoers can also participate in field trips, including swimming.

The day camp will operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost per child is $75 per week or $20 per day. A membership to the Boys and Girls Club is required, which can be obtained for an additional $20 fee per child.

All Stars Middle School Leadership Club to meet this summer

Tempe, Arizona – The Tempe All Stars Middle School Leadership Club invites boys and girls ages 10 to 14 to participate in a free four-week program that encourages positive decisions.

All Stars is a nationally recognized program that is proven to reduce violence and risky behaviors among middle school students. Participants will learn to make positive choices through field trips, games, activities, art projects and more. After finishing the four-week program, students will be presented with a commitment ring at a celebration to honor their completion.

All Stars meetings will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from June 1 through June 24 from 1-2:30 p.m., at the Westside Multi-Generational Center, 715 W. Fifth St., and from 3:30- 5 p.m. at the Escalante Multi-Generational Center, 2150 E. Orange St.

The All Stars program is funded by Magellan Health Services, through an agreement with the Arizona Department of Health Services, Division of Behavioral Health Services.

The program is free, but advance registration is required. Parents can attend an open-house meeting on May 28 from 5-7 p.m. at the Westside Multi-Generational Center, 715 W. Fifth St.
