Go Slow to Go Fast in Your Job Search

The Southwest Job Network (SJN), previously known as Scottsdale Job Network, in partnership with Glendale Community College (GCC) is hosting a West Valley seminar and networking event, “Slow Networking Monday, July 13, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Glendale Community College-Student Union, Room 104, located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale.

The goal of this seminar is to educate job seekers on how to conduct a mutually beneficial Slow Networking meeting. During the event, participants will learn step-by-step techniques for executing effective 20-30 minute discussions that result in professional referrals, job leads and new network connections. This event will also help job seekers expand their network by building new connections with fellow workshop attendees. Workshop registrants should come to the event with a prepared elevator speech. Tempe to host public meetings about Orbit July 8, 2009

Tempe residents are encouraged to attend one of three public meetings to learn more about potential route changes to the existing Orbit neighborhood circulator system.

The purpose of these meetings is to gather ideas from neighbors and get input on potential route changes using existing monetary resources. The same information will be presented at all three meetings.

Meetings will occur:

Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.
Tempe Transportation Center
Don Cassano Community Room
200 E. Fifth St., Tempe

Sept. 12 at 10 a.m.

Orbit is a free bus route system that uses small mini-buses to serve residential areas and connect them to local destinations such as parks, shopping areas, other neighborhoods, major bus and light rail routes, schools and multi-generational centers. Orbit buses are smaller and quieter than traditional buses. Each bus holds about 20 passengers and travels along collector and residential streets. Residents may board Orbit anywhere along residential streets by signaling the driver.

Tempe encourages residents to ride Orbit to ASU home football games July 8, 2009

The city of Tempe transit program, Tempe in Motion, will make it easy for residents to get to all Arizona State University home football games.

Residents who live along any of the Orbit routes (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars and Jupiter) re encouraged to use the service. Hours of operation on Orbit will be extended until midnight on game days. Residents who do not live along an Orbit route are encouraged to park at the Tempe Library Complex (3500 S. Rural Road) located at the southwest corner of Southern Avenue and Rural Road and take Orbit Jupiter to the game.

Below is a list of all ASU home football games and tentative kick-off times:
• Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. – ASU vs. Idaho State
• Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. – ASU vs. Louisiana-Monroe
• Oct. 3 at TBA – ASU vs. Oregon State
• Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. – ASU vs. Washington
• Oct. 31 at TBA – ASU vs. California
• Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. – ASU vs. USC
• Nov. 28 at TBA – ASU vs. Arizona

Kiwanis invites kids to shoot and score in summer soccer camps July 8, 2009

Kiwanis Recreation Center, 6111 S. All America Way, offers boys and girls ages 5 to 10 years old a chance to develop sound fundamental soccer skills in two four-day Indoor Soccer Camps in July.

Corona del Sol Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Dan Salas will help participants learn the rules and strategies of soccer while emphasizing dribbling, passing, headers and shooting.

The camps will be held at the Kiwanis Recreation Center’s 23,000 square foot multi-purpose gymnasium. Each camp session is $95 and will be from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Monday through Thursday, July 20- 23 (15911) or July 27-30 (15912). Advance registration is required.

Camp participants should bring their own size 4 or 5 ball and wear loose fitting clothing and tennis shoes. Each participant will receive a camp T-shirt.
